Update

Thank you for viewing our blog. As of today, we have almost 600 members in our Facebook group. Our group is made up of teachers & staff members in the Feltonville community, family members, friends, and many other people who are concerned about the safety and security of the over 2000 children in Feltonville. We have collected over 200 smoke detectors to date, and are anticipating receiving several more in the next few weeks. Below you will a few links to purchase smoke detectors as a donation, and also the option of purchasing 10 year lithium batteries to be placed in the smoke detectors. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to ask!

Something Good Has to Come Out of This...

Early this morning, fire ravaged the home of one of the families in our school's community. Two of our school's former students, along with their younger sister and mother, perished in the fire. There were NO working smoke detectors in the home. This horrible news hit our school very hard, including myself who taught Jamar and Minyan.

When tragic events like this happen, people ask themselves why it happened, or how could it have happened. I cannot understand the logic in this terrible event, but I know that if we can collect 500 or more smoke detectors for our community, we have the opportunity to help our beloved students and their families feel safe and secure in their homes.

Please give what you can. I have included a few websites that have reasonably priced smoke detectors, towards the bottom of the page. The "best" smoke detectors are the ones with the 10 year lithium batteries...they never have to be changed. If you would like to purchase a gift card from stores like Rite Aid, Walmart, Target, Home Depot, or Lowes instead, please send it to the address given as well.
